Thanks to the U.K.'s Birmingham City University, there is, at long last, a university course we could ace. The class is in social media, and it focuses on blogs and podcasts and YouTube and a bunch of other tech-y stuff that's not really tech-y at all. Still, old people eager to connect with young ones are paying over $6,000 to take the course. "We will consider ... Facebook and Twitter and how they can be used for communication and marketing purposes," said Jon Hickman, who started the course. Building a social media community would seem to be the way to go for advocacy groups that promote arts and culture in a community. Not long ago, it was enough to develop a community calendar and a web site. Now, these sites are expected to provide a variety of social media tools for meaningful interaction.
