Even with all the perks of being a pirate -- peg legs, parrots, eye patches, rum -- everyone knows the best part of the pirate lifestyle was getting the motion in your ocean on with a lusty pirate wench. So it should come as no surprise that one artist decided to immortalize a wench with a well put together statue with some eye-popping boobs. Unfortunately, this lovely piece of history is creating controversy in a Pennsylvania town.
The statue, clad in tight-fitting pants and a low-cut, midriff-baring top, sits outside an antique store, where it has apparently offended a local priest, who likens the swashbuckling siren to "soft porn."
According to the store owner Peggy Kanigoski, "He pointed to the statue and very dictatorially and said, 'I curse you. I curse this place. I want to see this destroyed. I want her destroyed.'"
It's a shame this statue can't defend herself from these violent intentions because with her hook hand and gun, it looks like she could do some damage.

oh dear lord. okay, i for one am SICK of priests forcing thoughts into our heads. my mom forced me to go to catholic school all my life. and for what? to have a priest YELL at me and tell me that their beleifs are the only way you'll get to heaven. honestly all of the yelling overdid it, and now im an athiest. i don't even beleive in an afterlife. i beleive that you only get one shot to live up life, don't screw it up, and don't have any regrets. of course im not saying that you should go out and kill everone, or sleep with everyone. have common sense. i think that religion was originally a way for people to cope with life and death. beleiving that there was always this firm and sure omniscient force, who created you, loves you, will lead you throught the good and the bad, if you didn't sin much, you will meet him at the end of time, and you will have an eternally happy afterlife. sounds like a good idea huh? but the problem is, the popes, bishops, and priests got too power hungry. notice how over the years, they've gotten more and more strict. they are starting to step in and say what we can and cant wear, what shows we can and cant watch, and if you don't beleive in their church, well, you are pretty much gauranteed a one way ticket to hell. i think that it is a load of bunk. it's like a teenage denying something SO much, and then the parents begin to not beleive them. i think priests should be put in their place. how is that pirate pornographic? maybe the did wear skimpy clothing, take into account it'd get all ragged on the long periods on the sea. and also, if that is pornographic, so were Adam and Eve. they were BUTT NAKED. oh yes, they were being pornographic too. thank you church, for being there through the years, supporting us by trying to BRAINWASH US, and criticize us on our every move, and also for contradicting yourself every twenty seconds. it's time for you to shut up you hypocritical ignorant twits!

saying only 4% of priests are pedophiles is in response to those who label EVERY priest is a pedophile....if you followed the context of all my comments, you will realize that I am NOT ok with even 4%....again, you are another example of taking things out of context or making generalizations (implying I am ok with 4%)....sure wish I could have a conversation with folks who know the context of any dialogue

I've read the whole thing. If you want to make a point, then phase your post better. What I read was your statement that only 4% of priests are molesters. Your words. Not mine. I am not implying anything.

you say you read the whole dialogue but me thinkest you did not...you only read the 4% comment...look at all the posts and you will find generalizations everywhere, e.g all priests have issues with women or all priests are pedophiles....my comment in an earlier post reflected that there are more Baptist ministers, percentage-wise, who are guilty of pedophilia but we won't hear that in the media....we also don't hear about the 96% of priests who are good decent men who do their best to live integral and wholesome lives....Frankly, I am saddened by those who believe the media or who wear blinders

"An adage dating at least to the time of Pliny the Elder maintained that the waters could be calmed by a woman uncovering her body at sea, and many sailors no doubt hoped that the representation of a bare-breasted woman would stave off foul weather."......This is a quote referring to the common theme of barebreasted women as ship figureheads. For those of you who don't know, Pliny lived before there was a catholic church or, obviously, catholic priests.

First of all, is this what passes for journalism? It's more frieghtening to me that many believe that because one is religeous that person does not have freedom of expression guarenteed under the constitution. The store is in a public place. If the priest was trespassing (that is, IN the store), the owner should have called the police and not the press. Seems like many here favor persecution of a person based on religion. To me, many here are full of hate and intollerance.

To SMc ...
Yeah the world is in such a great place now that we should ban all religion. That way everyone will love each other and live in peace and harmony.
What are you smoking????????????
By all means, live in your fantasy world, live for the moment and enjoy yourself. That's what Satan did. Look where it got him!
But just because you are a non-believer doesn't mean everyone else is.
I'll pray for you.

No the world isn't wonderful. I wish it were. You believe whatever you want to believe. I am not trying to change your beliefs. The point of this article is that some religious zealot took it upon himself to rant and curse someone in their own store. I don't criticize people for their beliefs and I don't spend my time walking through the neighborhood passing out pamphlet trying to spread the word about my beliefs. Unfortunately, most "christians" have no problem knocking on my door trying to share their beliefs with me. Its hypocritical that “christians” feel entitled to tell others how to live and what they should be doing, but no one is allowed to point out the obvious…there is no heaven or hell. There is no god and no satan. I live in the real world and I do my best to deal with real problems, make a living, and take care of my family. Pray if you want…it’s your time

Isn't it interesting that people claim "freedom of speech" when it comes to a lusty pirate wench statue............yet the 10 commandments monument had to be removed from the judicial building in Alabama because it was offensive.
And to pinkstarmac: I find it amusing that for all your complaining about the church and how you are not an athiest...that you begin your tirade with "Oh dear Lord"....Hmmmmmm methinks you are a bit on the confused side LOL

It sounds like the priest is a throwback to the Salem Witch Trials era. He should go back from whence he came.

I think it's also interesting that people who claim "freedom of religion" don't understand or appreciate that it includes the freedom not to have one. The 10 Commandments statue is the "separation of church and state". I am curious what your reaction would be if the county courthouse had a buddha statue out front or perhaps a lovely passage from the quran? See that would be a case of the government single out and endorse a single religion in a place that is supposed to represent all citizens. Why is that such a difficult concept for people to understand??

First off !!!! It is VERY offensive. It's in front of an antique store not a strip joint or bar. Anyone of any age goes in and out of an antique store. So it happens to be a priest verses a preacher? What he said is right!!! There is no way I would want to take my family around that. THAT is what is wrong with this country...NO morals!!! Everything is grey. WRONG! The freedom of religion is ALSO our constitutional rights!!! As well as it your right not to believe. So don't! But don't spread your Nasty opinions around with trash outside your store and expect us NOT to fight for our rights! This priest is just as entitled to his opinion, as the evil trash in this world is entitled to theirs. To assume he is a child molester b/c of the likes of a few fallen, is absolutely pathetic! ( and yes! I used the term few b/c there are thousands and thosands of priest) Just remember "the TRUTH is always the TRUTH rather you agree or not and an error is ALWAYS and error rather you think it is not!" Wise words from an AWESOME POPE, J.P.11

In history the church has proven to be one of the most ferocious mass murderers. Hundreds of thousands of people died in during the so called christianisation, the inquisition and the burning of witches. And now one of its members calls a half naked female pirate, who looks more like a comic strip figure than real life, perverted? Clean out your own house!
