Mayor Harry Stonebraker won his reelection bid in Winfield, Mo., (pictured), this week with a margin of victory that most politicians would die for. Unfortunately for Mr. Stonebraker, he already had.

The popular administrator snagged 90 percent of the votes in Tuesday's poll despite being in no position to serve out his fourth term in charge of the 723-person community, or even to begin it. Stonebraker passed away from a heart attack at age 69 nearly a month ago.

This isn't the first time Missourians have preferred an extinct politician to other, living rivals. In 2000, the state elected Mel Carnahan (D-Deceased) for governor, undeterred by his plane-crash death some weeks prior to polling day.

Rather boringly, Winfield will apparently be served by a stand-in mayor until a special election to replace Stonebraker is held next year. So don't expect any "Weekend at Bernie's"-style hi-jinks at upcoming council meetings.
