Eight-point-five percent of 8- to 18-year-olds display signs of being addicted to video games.Developmental psychologist Douglas Gentile was skeptical at first that there was such a thing as video-game addiction, but when he applied criteria used to diagnose pathological gamblers to a comprehensive survey of the habits of young video-game users, he found convincing parallels.
According to Gentile, video-game addicts display classic characteristics of addictive behavior, such as lying to friends and family about how much they play, using video games to escape their problems and getting into (real) fights.
Clearly, there are also folks over 18 who are addicted to video games. Most can be identified by their dreadful lack of hygiene.

Hey, I'm 50, take showers at least twice a week and love my XBOX. It's my electronic woobie. I play Call of Duty and Halo whenever I'm not sleeping or delivering pizzas or inviting one of my 30-minute girlfriends over for sock puppet shows. I don't gamble, I don't drink (anything but cheap 40s), and I only smoke outdoors. I don't have an addictive trait in me.
