The scrawny perceive approaching sounds to be closer than the strong do.Researchers asked 50 people to listen to a tone as it moved toward them, and then hit a button when they thought the sound was right in front of them. While 98 percent of the participants did so too early, those with greater upper body strength and stronger cardiovascular systems held off longer.
Previous studies have suggested women worry about sounds sooner, but the new finding expands this evolutionary trait to the physically weak of both sexes.
Since accidents of all kinds are often preceded by a cautionary sound, this is yet another reason to not go to the gym today.
