It's no secret that Internet polls are highly unscientific. But what the merry pranksters of the popular imageboard Web site 4chan did to Time magazine's "World's Most Influential People" online poll goes way beyond the typical vote-early-and-often manipulation. Not only did their multiple clicks bestow the title of most influential earthling on 4chan founder "moot," but they also had the first letters of the top 21 top vote-getters spell out "Marblecake also the game" -- which apparently means something dirty in 4chan's twisted, meme-creating cyberworld. (More here.)
Despite this obvious trickery, Time validated the results, calling Moot's win "stunning," however still completely missing how elaborate the prank was. See a screen shot of the ruse after the jump.

How quickly we forget...Back in 1998, Time Magazine held their annual online poll to determine their Man of the Year. Wrestling fans turned out in droves to vote Mick Foley as their Man of the Year. At one point, Foley dominated the voting controlling over 50% of the total votes. TIME.com eliminated Mick Foley from the voting, so they could 'give' the award to Bill Clinton and Ken Starr. I guess since this wasn't a prank the 'geniuses' at 4chan can calim some originality but come on.
