Inspired by a love of sci-fi, a British couple picked May 4 (aka "Star Wars Day") for their geek wedding. Duncan Thomson and Sammi Gardiner had their first date at the 2005 flick "Revenge of the Sith" and tied the knot on Monday dressed as Han Solo and Princess Leia.

Fifty wedding guests also turned out in costume as characters from the franchise while the vows (administered by Darth Vader) included lines like "I promise to protect you from carbon freezing." Gardiner's ring was specially carved from a meteorite.

What is it with British 40-somethings and bizarro costumed weddings? We suppose Han and Leia are slightly more flattering matrimonial alter-egos than Shrek and Fiona, but does that make it any less dorky?

We'll leave the final word to Ms. Gardiner. "We are not Star Wars geeks as such," she lied.
