Most of the world's population is optimistic, with Ireland leading the pack.Research based on a massive Gallup poll of more than 150,000 adults in 140 countries has found that 89 percent of people expect their lives in five years time to be as good or better than they are today. Zimbabwe, a nation plagued with violence and political instability, ranked last in optimism, while the U.S. checked in at number 10.
The study also found that, within nations, factors such as income and age have little effect on the optimism of individuals.
In the absence of any specific reason as to why the Irish are so particularly jazzed, we'll assume it has something to do with their large population of tiny, gleefully mischievous beings who protect pots of gold.

Seriously? Seriously? Most upbeat? Has anyone seen The Departed or read Ulysses? This poll must have been conducted 2 or 3 hours before closing time.
