So Steve Harvey thinks that atheists have no morals. This raises an interesting question -- not if Atheists have morals or Steve Harvey is a bigot, but who has be best put-downs, atheists or believers? If you follow our logic -- Steve Harvey is religious and not funny, George Carlin was an atheist and hilarious.
It's like a your-momma joke competition, but this time your momma is your father who art in heaven (or perhaps just in your noggin). And if you look at the material, we firmly believe that the atheists have won.
To aid you in this important task we've made a very brief list of famous atheist comedians and another of comics who practice religion. Then -- and this is when the smackdown really begins -- we've included clips of atheist comedians going after religion, and religious comedians going after atheism.
Check it all out after the jump, and please add to our incomplete lists in the comment section.
Atheist comedians -- George Carlin, David Cross, Ricky Gervais, Patton Oswalt, Bill Maher and Eddie Izzard.
Believer comedians -- Dane Cook, Steve Harvey, Chris Tucker, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kevin Smith and Stephen Colbert (even in jest).
Team Atheist
In perhaps the most famous of all the comedic anti-religion screeds, George Carlin pulls no punches in his assault on the "invisible man in the sky." Then he throws a curve ball by admitting he worships the sun, but prays to Joe Pesci. (NSFW)
As a general rule, David Cross doesn't like God, his home state of Georgia, or dressing like an adult. In this clip he directs the bulk of his ire at those who profess to know how the roads in heaven are paved. (NSFW)
In this clip, Eddie Izzard, famed cross-dresser, makes fun of the logic and traditions of Easter and Christmas.
Team God
Dane Cook was minding his own business when an atheist sneezed directly in his face. But, never fear, every sorority girl's favorite comic came right back at the vulgar God-denier with a stiff jab of existential dread. (NSFW)
Christian comedian Mark Lowry weaves a delightful tale of what he does after he traps an atheist in his house. We don't know who the Sam Elliot look-alike sitting behind Lowry is but, yes, that is one inspiring beard/hair combo.
Stephen Colbert seems to flounder in this interview and, if anything, seems to end up making fun of the religious.

In the case of Stephen Colbert, I think you're confusing him with the character (and it is a character) he plays on The Colbert Report.
In short: it's satire and you missed it completely.

You sound misinformed- Stephen Colbert is a devout Roman Catholic who was taught (and quite admirably so, I'd say, from appearances) that it is okay to question religious ideals while accepting its tenets at the same time. I invite you to read some interviews he's done out of character before you get on your high horse.

It has nothing to do with whether he's a devout Roman Catholic or not. The person he is on TCR isn't actually him, it's a satirical character. The interview with Dawkins is *not* a straight interview. It's Colbert lampooning folks like O'Reilly.

Seriously? Mark Lowry?
Were you just not trying at all to find something worth watching? No Seinfeld? No Pryor? No anyone that is actually a comedian?
What the heck did you search in youtube to get Mark Lowry?

Yeah, even though I'm pulling for Team Atheist, I have to admit the last two featured comics for the other team were pretty weak considering the initial roster you published. Lets see some Steve Harvey or Kevin Smith (or Pryor, like someone mentioned.) I discount Colbert only because his stance is, as this thread addresses, hard to discern at times.
So, Team Atheist may have won this round, but its a hollow victory. Like in Little League when you win by forfeit because not enough kids on the other team showed up. We're atheists, dammit! You've got to prove it beyond a doubt, or we won't believe you.

Add Ricky Gervais to Team Atheist...
Since the passing of Carlin (blessing and peace be upon him), Gervais has taken over as the single funniest and most thought provoking human alive...

Why has no one mentioned Richard jenni for the atheist team?
Kevin Smith is funny but I can't really draw upon a religious joke but more of his awkward encounters. Though Dane Cook hurts team atheist more then anything.
Still the anti-religious are great and putting George Carlin on the atheist team is just cruel. We don't want a massacre.
