Our happy hour fact to amaze your drinking buddies with.

Those who feel pressure to look attractive are more likely to fear others will reject them on the basis of appearance.

A study of college students between the ages of 18 and 33 found that women were more likely than men to have a heightened sensitivity to appearance rejection, and that both sexes are made more vulnerable by internalized media ideals of attractiveness.

Interestingly, the researchers discovered self-perceived attractiveness and overall self-esteem don't quell these fears once a person feels they are being judged on their looks.

In a related Asylum study, there's an 86 percent chance your girlfriend will not be ready at the agreed time for tonight's date, and 99 percent probability you'll be rejected if you forget to mention how good she looks when she finally does emerge from the bathroom.
