Ever since Barack Obama got all romantic last weekend and took Michelle on a ritzy New York date, Republicans have been trying to get people riled up about how much it cost taxpayers. But Rick Santorum, former Senator from Pennsylvania and lifelong gay-hater, took a different tack. He offered Obama some good ol' boy dating advice.

Find out what he had to say after the jump.

"I think he has to realize that flying to New York is self-indulgent. Go down to the corner bar and have a drink -- a shot and a beer," Santorum said. "It does not matter where you go with your wife; [it's] that it's with your wife. It is [the] mundane that really makes the marriage special. Because you are with your wife the mundane isn't mundane. It's special."

Nailed it! Perhaps Santorum should consider a new career as relationship advice columnist for I Can't Stand My Wife Because She Always Wants to Go On Dates That Involve More Than Getting Drunk at a Bar While the Penguins Game Is On magazine. (Although it appears from the above photo that he doesn't mind going out to a nice meal with Mitt Romney.)
