A Zagat's survey of over 6,000 fast food regulars has confirmed what your buddies from Cali have been telling you for years: In-N-Out Burger has the finest promptly made hamburger in the land.
The franchise with the secret menu and the cult-like following edged out national chains Wendy's, Burger King and McDonald's, as well as Whataburger, which services the South and Southwest.
But given the pride West Coasters have always derived from the "double doubles" and "4x4s" only they can have, we suspect they may be less than objective when analyzing the national burger chains, thus throwing off the survey.
So we toss it to you, to try again.

I wish you had an "Other" option, for 5 Guys is much better than In & Out.

No Fatburger? come on but of the ones listed here it's no constest that in and out wins. it's the others are scrawny processed burgers. in and out is an actual burger like you put on a grill.
Still Fatburger beats all!!!

None of the above? Obama got it right when he went to 5 Guys. In-N-Out is run by religious wackos anyway. WTF are McDonald's, BK and White Castle doing on this list? C'mon people.

In-N-Out is crap. Whataburger is way better. Bigger, tastier, and done your way. THey don't have to have a secret menu. California should be saving their money instead of buying shitty burgers.

I've never had an In and Out burger, but Hardees / Carl's Jr. easily blows away McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger King. I can't believe it's not on the list.

I agree we need an "Other" option... for Shake Shack in NYC! They are so creative and have the most incredible wine list, which might defeat the purpose but I think is pretty hilarious: http://corksandcaftans.wordpress.com/2009/05/29/restaurant-review-shake-shack/
