Drawing a contrast with their coverage of murdered abortion doctor George Tiller, Bill O'Reilly made the on-air accusation that CNN had almost completely ignored the equally politically charged murder of an army recruiter in Arkansas. It would have been a good point, if it bore any resemblance to the truth. But, as CNN's Rick Sanchez uses the tell-all video tape to demonstrate, CNN in fact covered the murder of Private William Long extensively.

This writer is obviously biased and wants CNN to look good, but anyone who actualy watches O'Rielly knows he puts it well into perspective. When you cover a baby killer and parade him around as a hero for 3 hours on primetime, while giving a whole 30 odd minutes to a millitary officer getting killed by an american muslem extremist. That is a shame and you should be called out on it. And justifying babykilling, while caring if a couple terrorist got waterboarded is absolute hypocracy and ignorance.
Our country truely has a problem.

This ridiculous liberal v. conversative schism seeks to herd Americans into two idealogical pens. Anyone is isn't willing to parrot the party line of the so called "right" is villianized and dismissed. It has become more important to affirm the ideology that to have an open exchange of ideas so that we may effectively address the many challeges that face us in the 21st century. The idea that there is only one school of political thought that should apply to all people all of the time is the hallmark of a repressive society not a free one. People will disagree--that's to be expected. Reasonable people will listen to each other and work out compromises. Unreasonable people will insist that things only be done their way. To them they are the only ones who matter. There is no room for anyone else.

Of course what is overlooked is which story CNN actually showed more often and gave the most emphasis, Dr. Tiller or PFC Long. As someone who travels a lot, thus spends a lot of time in airports watching CNN between planes, it's clear Dr. Tiller is seen as a much larger tragedy by CNN. To be honest, this footage is the first I have seen of CNN's "extensive" coverage of the PFC Long murder. On the other hand O'Reilly should have consulted with an "independent" (giggle) source like Media Matters to make certain his facts were straight.
