Five years ago Will Ferrell could do no wrong. Frat boys loved him in "Anchorman," kids loved him in "Elf" and girls loved him in "Stranger than Fiction."

But last weekend, no one loved Ferrell when "Land of the Lost," his mammoth remake of the '70s TV show, pulled in an embarrassing $18 million at the box office. Universal blew through $200 million to make and market the movie and a paltry opening weekend doesn't give the movie much of a chance to break even.

This all serves as the latest reminder of America's fleeting infatuation with Hollywood stars. One day we prop them up and shower them with praise, and the next we sh*t on them. Of course, "Land of the Lost" does look pretty horrendous. Either way, a flop of this magnitude would seem to indicate that Will Ferrell is on his way to Jim Carrey territory.

Are you over Frank the Tank? Who will step up to accept his comedy crown? (We're rooting for Danny McBride.)
