Required listening from the week in music.

The Matador release "The Eternal" takes Sonic Youth back to their indie roots after two decades in the majors. Which means all of your pretentious hipster friends will claim this is their best album since "Daydream Nation."
J Dilla's "Jay Stay Paid" has an old-school hip-hop sound reminiscent of Lupe Fiasco and Tribe. Plus, he has one of the best names in the game. At least until Croc-a-Dilla comes along.
"Bitte Orca" from Dirty Projectors follows Animal Collective and Grizzly Bears in the recent trend of arty Brooklyn bands that heart Brian Wilson. Must be something in the water. Probably cocaine.
Hopefully Deerhunter's latest set of pleasing noise-rock, "Rainwater Cassette Exchange," will make us stop mistaking them for Deerhoof. Or Blossom Dearie.
