Over the weekend, the citizens of Pittsburgh handled their Penguins' Stanley Cup victory with the grace and restraint of a fan base that is becoming accustomed to winning championships. While on the other side of the country, Los Angeles' first major sports title in seven years was met with all the car burning and bottle-throwing we've come to expect from the City of Angels.

With both the NHL and NBA seasons complete, we enter the only time of year when just one of the major pro or college sport leagues -- Major League Baseball -- is in action. This is good news for fans of the national pastime, who resent it when baseball is pushed to the back of SportsCenter by upstart sports with unsophisticated fan bases.

On the other hand, an increasingly popular school of thought suggests that baseball is painfully dull -- and difficult to gamble on to boot. Meaning the summer months are the perfect time to forget about following sports altogether, and to concentrate on other things. Women, for example, who will conveniently be spending this potential dead period wearing fewer clothes than usual.
