If there's one thing we can't stand, it's seeing big corporations trample on the little guy. Or in this case, the little lady on a motorized scooter. Ariel Wade, who suffers from degenerative dystrophy, is taking on White Castle after they denied her drive-thru access. Like Wade, this makes us "madder than fish grease." Check out the video after the jump. From the Web:

It appears unlikely you have ever spent much time in a wheelchair. Many commercial establishments and nearly all homes lack wheelchair access. Many street crossings, too, lack ramps. So, to get around, one needs not only a wheelchair but an attendant. The problems are not so much deliberate discrimination as lack of forethought and, I imagine, lack of profit. Wheelchair bound customers cannot buy enough burgers (or whatever) to make a difference in the bottom line, so their needs are ignored as are the laws which were intended to protect them.
Have a nice day!

AS AN INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENT FOR 40 YEARS I SPEAK WITH KNOWLEDGE AND EXPIERENCE. MOST POWER SCOOTER OPERATORS DO NOT HAVE A HIGH POST OF FLAG TO SIGNAL MOTORIZED VEHICLES THAT THEY ARE IN THE AREA. TWO OF MY CLIENTS HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS WITH THESE SCOOTERS BECAUSE THEY SIT SO LOW THE DRIVER COULD NOT SEE THEM. THIS WOMAN AND ALL SCOOTER OPERATORS NEED TO CREATE ADDED VISABILITY AND NOT ACT LIKE THEY ARE A MOTORIZED VEHICLE.

Her motorized scooter is not street legal, so she should not be using a vehicle entrance. She had to walk and get on the scooter (I doubt she sleep in it) so she can get off and walk in. Now being that it was after closing the lobby, she should not be scooting around late at night. She is just trying to make money off a law suit. People like her are a drain on the economy and legal system. Life is not fair. Get over with it.

I hope that woman doesn't get a dime. White Castle would not allow someone to walk through the drive thru even after hours when the lobby is closed. Does she think that because she is handicap that she should get special privileges?

Dining room was closed. It said so in the first 10 seconds of the video.

The handicap entrance is for the inside. At night the drive through is for cars. If she got hit by a car she would sue because it should have been expected they keep the drive thru safe.

Sounds like the burger chains need to understand that when they say drive thru that means a motorize vechicle, which includes motor scooters, wheelchairs, and almost anything that is powered by anytype of motor and is driveable.as long as the customer can drive thru then they are with in their wrights to use a drive thru.they just open a can of worms and the lady is wright to proceed in this matter,If I,m on my bike i go thru the drive thru to get a sandwich.

They would be discriminating against walkers or bikers if they let her go through on her scooter! She was insulted, not discriminated against, and it was because of safety policy, not because she was handicapped.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ENTRANCES, MOBILITY, OR EVEN DISCRIMINATION. HERE IS SOMEONE WHO FELT BECAUSE OF A POSSIBLE DISABILITY (OR JUST BIG) THEY COULD MAKE A BUSINESS MAKE CHANGES TO A LAW THAT HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE DRIVE THRU WINDOWS HAVE BEEN AND THAT IS NO WALK UPS, BICYCLES OR ANY OTHER MEANS OF OTHER THAN AUTOMOBILES/MOTORCYCLES. IM IN INSURANCE THIS IS A HUGE LIABILITY FOR THEM IF SHE WERE TO BE SITTING WAITING FOR SERVICE AND GOT HIT.

Well, the one thing I cannot stand besides a fat person who is too fat and/or lazy to walk, to be denied drive through to a fast food drive through. A big(excuse the pun) deal about nothing.

I agree with White Castle! A power Scooter is not a vehicle it's a wheel chair therefore it's to dangerous to be used at a drive thru. She can not "drive" her wheel chair on the road so what makes her think she can go through a drive thru. If they served her and she was bumped by a car then she would have sued them and won.

I have read all the comments about this lady and her scooter and calling her fat and lazy from some of these post is so uncalled for. All these folks that choose to redicule her because she is in a scooter and calling her fat and lazy should be included in her law suit. That is so defamation of character. I trully hope that all the people that chose to ridcule this lady never becomes disabled. I became disable @ the early age of 40. It is like my life is over. I too have a scooter and if need be it can be driven anywhere I need to go. we need to focus on the people that ride mopeds because they lost their privilige to drive a car. They are blocking the road and daring you to hit them.If this lady was hungry and it seems she was. Why not serve her? Where is the sign posted that says scooter's are not allowed @ the drive through? Come on people, think about this. If you were hungry regardless what you weighed and you lived within a scooter's drive to a fasst food joint, wouldn't you do the same thing. Yes, we have to walk to get on our scooter's. I live in a 2000 sq ft home and there are days I can't walk from one end to the other. I pray that all you folks that are "unhappy" with her choice of transportation. But for one second, put yourself in her shoes. Just what would you have done?
