It takes only six minutes for the brain to react to alcohol.

In the first experiment of its kind, 15 volunteers quickly drank the alcoholic equivalent of three beers through straws as their brains were scanned. Six minutes after doing so, the magnetic imaging began to show chemicals that are meant to protect brain cells disappearing.

As the drinking continued, more components of the brain cells were cut off. Luckily, when the volunteer's brains were scanned the next day everything was back to normal. Scientists warn this probably isn't the case with chronic drinkers.

If, for some reason, you don't have six minutes of sobriety to spare, snorting alcohol should allow it to hit the brain even faster.
