While we've all heard sad tales of high school students not being allowed to graduate at the last moment because of senior pranks gone wrong, a student losing his diploma for blowing a kiss to his mother as he walked the commencement stage has to be a first. But that's what happened to Justin Denney, a Bonny Eagle High senior from Standish, Maine. Apparently this show of long-distance affection violated a code of conduct that Denney and the other students had signed.
The school district's superintendent, who was presiding over the ceremony, made the snap decision not to give Denney his diploma and send him back to his seat empty-handed.
You can watch Justin Denney's "conduct violation" after the jump, and decide for yourself if the superintendent's harsh ruling had any merit.

I have a question, i see that you target gays. do you have a problem with them? Yes gays can have a parade, whats wrong with that? A straight parade, what is that goin to prove? "that the world is still immature and completely unready to accept alternative lifestyles." its bad enough we gays are looked down because of our preferance, but i hope i didnt take your comment out of context, but the way you put it seemed like gays were not accepted in your lifestyle.

It's not the gay parade itself, it's the attention grabbing that it encourages. Would you feel the same if the KKK were parading in your streets? No, but they have as much right to be there as the gays. It isn't necessary to "showboat" because no one in America wants to know what you do in your bedroom. By the way, have any of you been to a high school graduation lately? They two hours to get 1000-2000 kids in and out of that arena. They do not have time for each kid to be a ham.

This beats all I have ever heard of. That Superintendent should be strung up by his heels. If the student met all the requirements to graduate, him showing thanks, appreciation and affection to his mother should be congratulated instead of punished.

That woman should receive some sort of reprimand for her deplorable actions.

Justin was showing love. The superintendent was consumed with protocol and unjustly took the measures to squash any delight love could bring. SHAME on her! May her soul be forever tortured, and I hope she is repremanded for turning away a good young man with a loving spirit on his special day.
Go Justin...and Congratulations!

The superintendent should start looking for another job!! This is OUTRAGEOUS!!!! Kuddos to the Justin for paying respect, in such a minor manor, to someone that helped him achieve his accomplishments!!

Some people let the little power or big power that they have go to there head. At least she got out of town before the crap hit the fan. This woman should be demoted, she let her little power go to her little brain. How do people like that get that far? Our schools are employing people ill equiped for the job. Look at the teachers caught having sex with there students, and the teachers darn good at there job having to put up with the abuse because they happen to work at the same school. Who hires these sick sex starved teachers? May I suggest more complex tests by several shrinks before hiring.

Justin should have gone along with the system. Cruise through 12th grade with reading/writing/math skills at a 7th grade level, constantly disrespect your teachers, knock up your girlfriend and shuttle her through the nurse's office for an abortion... that's all okay. But blow a kiss to Mom, acknowledge your family, and proudly show a symbol of sports achievement? You infidel!
Say you want a revolution? Tear the public school system down to the ground and rebuild it all over again... this time, officious, pompous bureacrats obsessed with power and theatrics need not apply.

Superintendent needs to find a new job, maybe something without children involved. Seems to be a wonderful boy who is thankful to his parents for their support; which is something every child on that stage should have done; wouldn't that have been something- the entire graduation class not receiving their diplomas becuase they ALL blew their moms a kiss; supertintendent has power issues.

It is administrataive jerks like this that made me glad when my own children got out of public school. There is a time and place for discipline but once a student has completed the requirements for high school graduation they all deserve their diplomas no matter what the infraction.

How dare she ruin this child's graduation from high school? He blew a kiss to his mom. He was a star athlete. He didn't disrupt the ceremonies. She stole he special moment; it cannot be undone. Her job should be undone!

This superintendant needs to be sued big time. Not the school not the city. There needs to be a huge cash award or a job termination. Dad is right this was once in a life time in this honor students life and the super must be punished so that there is a big sting effect

What the heck is wrong with that Women, she had to embarrass that kid like that is just terrible. Imagine what it would be like to go up there feeling happy, then giving a sweet blow kiss to his mother, and after that your stupid bitchy superintendant, who I think should be fired, gets in your face and tells you to sit down like that just is indescribeable and sitting down feeling embarrased is just terrible.

WOW! What a disgrace to the school, students, and parents. This superintendent really was on a power trip. My son just graduated and every student attemted at least eye contact with their parents, if not waves, blown kisses, and we had 443 students walk. This is an event that can't be "done over". A very public you tube apology and suspension of pay for that day would be justified.
