first of all, i love women AND i love toys. but seriously this is getting a little rediculous, especially considering that many of these toys are available to children. I don't need my son growing up with the idea that this is what women (supposed "strong women" if these dolls are super hero's) dress & look like. Their features (ahem) are way dramatic and exagerated, this isn't how any REAL woman looks or should look. These toy makers need to chill out, they tend to forget their influence on the youth.

There is no point to this article. is completely moot as KIDS are not able to purchase these "TOYS"
of the 4 only one would be available at a mass market store. and NONE are in a child's price range. Toomb Raider toy($34.95) Invisible Woman (japanese sold 8900 yen= $94 US) Assassin Figure (specialty figure $80.dollers) and the Ivy soul Calibur Figure. ($144.95)
Now im a father and im pretty sure im going to monitor what my young children are buying with say $400.00 of my hard earned dollers and im going to have questions on why they want them. as there not action figures but shelf decorations.
as for how kids Dress now a days go to a mall and look in the windows of all the name brand stores and shops watch the ads on tv and bill boards. toys are not the issue unless you want to look at the brats and barbies of our generation.
Leave the artistic maniquetts alon as they are not TOYS

Great post, Eric. The biggest problem here isn't what the role models for kids are. You know why? The GREATEST role model a child should have is their parents. The parents should tell a child if something is wrong or right. Instead, parents buy their children cell phones, scantily clad Barbies and Bratz dolls, and don't control what they wear or how they behave.
And in addition to the prices Eric mentioned, none of these so-called toys are even toys. They're action figures, which basically means they're collectors items for nerds. Which is WHY they're designed that way. It's based off of the classic comic book heroines of yore. You wanna talk about ridiculous? Let's look at the width of Superman's shoulders, or the package in his tights. I don't see ANYONE complaining about that, and it's JUST as disproportionate. Morons.

I'm with Eric. Most of these aren't "toys", they're collectibles targeted at an older audience, late teens, college, above. My own husband and I both collect figures like these and we're 30 and 33. These aren't designed and targeted at kids, it's another instance of parents not being parents and watching what their kids get and bring into their home under their roof. It's just like with movies and video games. Not everything is targeted at kids, there is a large population of adults that hey, like to have a little bit of fun and not so vanilla of a life and enjoy collecting things other than stamps or coins. Parents need to monitor what their kids collect, they're not adults with the fully developed sense of right and wrong or morality that can determine all of this on their own. On the other end of the spectrum I know my own friend recently was complaining about even the kids shows being stupid and pointless these days, stuff has been dumbed down to them, it's no wonder some might seek more adult passtimes. Bring back the creative and intelligent kids shows of the 80s.

uhh.... generally when you say "These are toys, they're _____", the blank is supposed to go in the opposite direction and not use the word you're trying to cast off.
Not saying good parenting isn't the solution, hey, I'm all for it. But obviously there needs to be SOME sort of a standard for all media concerning this. Parents can only go so far before becoming Nazis with their watching and accusing their children of thought crime. So I think its necassary on both parts, the parents and whatever media/medium is out there.
FYI, I don't consider these toys to be out of line. Collector items, aimed at older audience.

WOW, thats probably the most stupid thing I've ever read. Not only is it ignorant, but knowing that you said that makes you seem like the type to think its only alright for women to like the same sex. ONLY if their hot though, right? Get your head out of your ass.
But ANYWAY, the toys really aren't the problem. Like Eric said, its to attract a older male collecter consumer. Only the parents of the child that wants the toy can decide on whether or not they can have the thing. Maybe if parents these days will put down their wallet and think for a minute about how much they DON'T want their kids playing with something they disapprove of we wouldn't be so worried about the situation. Who knew??! How about you DON'T BUY YOUR KIDS EVERYTHING THEY WANT. That might help.

I wasn't complaining, if you'd have paid attention. And yeah. Look at ANY comic book, cartoon, or action figure of male comic book superheroes. They're all over-muscled, misproportionate, and have bulging crotches.
My point is that I DON'T CARE. I think it's childish to freak out about toys, regardless of gender. Regardless of age. If people don't like it, don't buy it for your kids. Simple as that.

Okay, first off, that's how the girl's clothes in Tomb Raider was designed in the video game, so of course they're going to make her clothes like that in the movie, so they can't just stick a prom dress on the doll. That's not how it works. Second, Soul Calibur is pratically anime, and anime girls wear things like that. It's how they were designed in Japan and have always been that way. Sheesh. They can't just re-design something because they're "too sexy" because last time I checked, that's illegal unless given consent.

If anything toy makers need to step up their game in my opinion.
I'd love to see more figures that are higher in detail, like anime figurines for instance.
They'd be better looking, in proportion, and would definitely sell better.
