A man in Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with 47 counts of fraud and larceny for impersonating his dead mother to collect benefits and loans in her name. Thomas Parkin allegedly fooled government agencies and banks for six years by disguising himself in a wig, sunglasses and red blouse to look like the late Irene Parkin.
According to prosecutors, when Irene died in 2003, Thomas Parkin concealed her death and began collecting her Social Security and rent benefits, totaling over $100,000. Investigators finally caught on after arranging a meeting with Parkin's mother and finding his impersonation unconvincing.
Parkin now faces up to 25 years in jail, where he'll have plenty of time to complain to that it's too drafty and make himself feel guilty for not calling.
