In a piece of news that has tennis commentators saying, "You cannot be serious!" a falcon in England has learned to swoop on stray tennis balls and return them to his owner, Trevor Hill. The 3-year-old Striated Caracara, Stanley, first showed his talent when Hill was playing a round of tennis with a friend. "Stanley was flying at my place near the court and managed to get over the wire fence," Hill said. "I was about to fetch him when he scurried over with a ball in his mouth. Stanley brought it over obediently, just like the ballboys and girls at Wimbledon."
Hill, a falconer, keeps 30 birds of prey on his property in Worcestershire. Though Stanley is clearly the best tennis ball retriever, he will no doubt be overshadowed by Hill's sexy young falcon from Russia.
