When Johnny Strange climbed the 29,035 feet of Mt. Everest, he not only reached the highest point in the world, he scaled the tallest peak on his sixth continent. After a quick jaunt to Australia, and a relatively easy 7,310-foot hike, Strange became a member of the exclusive "Seven Summits" club. The unusual part? He' s 17 years old.
"Nothing is impossible," Strange wrote in an email to family and friends after becoming the youngest person to accomplish this intercontinental feat of extreme mountaineering.
When Strange reached Everest's crest, he unfurled a sign which read "stop genocide." While his ambitious demand probably won't be met, the venue from which it was issued certainly projects more gravitas than outside a protest or from the stage at Lollapalooza.

A small technicality here...some people do consider Mt. Kosciuszko in Australia as the seventh summit (the "Bass" list). Others consider the Cartensz Pyramid in Indonesia (16,023') as the seventh summit on the seventh continent (including Australia) called "Oceania" (the "Messner" list). See 7summits.com for a discussion, description of all of the summits, and list of those who have climbed all of each of these lists (and both).
Some people even disagree on the highest summit in Europe, considering Mt. Blanc part of Europe, but Elbrus part of Asia. (Elbrus is higher than Mt. Blanc.)

Hey, out here in Los Angeles, we have a homeless girl who is on her way to Harvard. Anything is possible when you work hard and are determined, and I am so proud of the youth of this country showing their mettle -- congratulations on all of your accomplishments!
