Bernie Madoff, 71, has been sentenced to 150 years -- the maximum prison time sought by government prosecutors. To add insult to rest-of-your-natural-life-in-jail injury, judge Denny Chin made sure it was known that none of Madoff's friends or family bothered to submit letters attesting to the disgraced financier's character. So if we've learned anything from the Madoff saga, it's that stealing massive amounts money from everybody you know is a terrific way to end up friendless and unloved in prison.

He should of gotten something worse IMO, seeing as he will only serve a short time before he is dead.

To be given two nickels to rub together would have been too much for the wife, she will still never have to work or go without any basic need. Good honest people down on their luck that would have been helped by the notable charities, will now go without ANYTHING!

I smell BIGOTRY here. BM is a very bad man. However, the fact that he happens to be Jewish is totally irrevelant.
ALL men are capable of disgusting corruption regardless of their racial, national or cultural backroand.
You can find a racist bigot under every rock.

I THINK BERNIE MADOFF WAS A SWINDER
HOWEVER, I THINK THAT THE PEOPLE THAT INVESTED IN HIS PONZI SCAM, WERE SO GREEDY, THAT THEY COULDN"T SEE THE FORREST BECUSE OF THE TREES. I HAVE MANY INVESTMENTS IN THE STOCK MARKET. LOTS OF THEM WENT BELLY UP. HOWEVER EACH AND EVERY ONE I COULD STUDY ADN LOOK AT REPORTS OF THEIR TRACK RECORD. I ALSO HAVE MANY THAAT ARE DOING GREA, EVEN IN THIS BAD ECONOMY. AS THE SMART PEOPLE, WHO SOME WERE MILLIONAIRS IN THEIR OWN RIGHT, AND ALSO LARGE COPORATIONS, WHO GAVE MEDOFF THEIR MILLIONS TO INVEST. WERE THESE PEOPLE SO INNOCENT NOT TO FIND OUT WHAT HIS PORTFOLIO CONSISTED OF? wOULD YOU BUY A USED CAR, WITH OUT SEEING ALL TEH MILAGE, AND OR SERVICE HISTORY? DO I BLAME MADDOF, SURE BUTI BLAME ALL THE GREEDY PEOPLE THAT WANTED 12% ON THEIR INVESTMENT, WHEN EVERYONE COULDN'T PROMISE 2% IF SOMETHING LOOKS SO GOOD, AND YOU JUMP IN WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED FOR GREED, YOU DESERVE IT.

I underdstand what you are getting at with the buyer beware spiel but honestly it really just comes off as a veiled justification for what Madoff had done. I'm sure Bernie's rationalization for what he was doing was exactly the same as your argument.
"Hey they deserve it for being so dumb. I'll just take this and this..."
Being dumb is not technically a crime...but stealing is. Period. A society that did nothing about stealing on that massive of a level would be a sad one.

As your spelling shows, there's not much correct about your logic. Its not greedy to want to make as large a profit as one can. If you drive a car that uses gasoline, chances are you're supporting "greedy" businessmen. If you smoke or buy liquor, same thing. Do you tell your broker(if you even have one) NOT to invest in anything that might yield a high percentage....do you make sure he keeps your profit levels low? Ever walked into a casino in hopes of NOT hitting it big? And are others who do hope they do considered "greedy" in your eyes? Or is it just your transparent jealousy that most of Madoff's investors had more money than you could even hope to ever have a fraction of that you can't now feel pity that their money is gone? Look in the mirror fool!

Well, now I remember exactly why I have little sympathy for the investors who had a lousy BM experience... I have a great deal of compassion for people - but something didn't ring true about all these folks who claim to have been ignorant about their BM association. You had it right, they had to have known not to ask questions; why they were getting an avaricious return on their dollar and did not ask why?! Now I do remember why I am non-empathetic. Perhaps feeling what many of us have been feeling with regard to being responible and conscionable about our money - and where it goes - will bring back a sense of enlightenment, not entitlement toward unfathomable investment lures. Do your homework and be honest with yourself for beginners! And don't ever have come back into contact with a bad BM!

Whomever did the wrong deed is the one to blame...just like you can't blame a woman being rape because she is wearing a short skirt.

YOU'RE AN IDIOT. MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT GOT SWINDLED INVESTED IN A COMPANY THAT DID NOT HAVE MADOFFS NAME ON IT SO THEY HAD NO IDEA, WHICH INDLUCED SOME RETIREMENT FROM THE COMPANY THEY WORKED FOR.
BEFORE YOU COMMENT ON OTHER PEOPLES SO CALLED "BAD DECISION" YOU NEED TO LOOK AT YOURSELF "STUPID"!
