The year was 1982. "E.T." lit up the silver screen, a detective named Magnum ruled the airwaves and a New Yorker named Ruth Bendik had her wallet stolen in Central Park. Now, after 27 years, the wallet is back. While tearing down a dying cherry tree in the park last week, tree-care supervisor Josh Galiley discovered a blue leather wallet inside the hollowed-out trunk. IDs inside pegged the owner as Bendik, now 69, who recalled having her wallet swiped as she watched the 1982 New York City Marathon.
"I remember it like it was yesterday," she said. "I was in the park, walking over to greet the runners after they finished, and I was in a crush of people. And all of a sudden, I realized my purse felt very light." Bendkik was happy to be reunited with the wallet, which contained her old IDs and a 1982 penny. The thief apparently made off with the $20 she had at the time of the robbery.
No word if there's also hope for the exciting return of "Magnum P.I."

My purse and wallet were stolen years ago.I had ran into a hosp.ER to pick up my son, who was a Medical Scout--his scout leader was a doctor. Normally, there was a guard next to the outside door, but he had gone to get a drink of water when the robbery occured. I couldn't have been gone more than 3 minutes. Stupidly, I had left my purse on the car seat, thinking I'd be right back--which I was. Eight years later, a big burly trucker knocked on my door. Fortunately, I was still living in the same house. He said that they had found my wallet--but alas, not my purse which had a cherished keepsake in it. He was hauling away material from an old house that was being torn down, and it was found underneath the front porch. It still had my Kennedy for President button and Dem card in it and precious photos of each one of my children. I was glad to get it back as the photos were one of a kind.

Perhaps they should check the DNA and maybe the one that stole the money would return the $20.00
You never know they might be feeling bad for all these years, or maybe they went on to seal much bigger items.

My sister and I were out at a nightclub, and and unknown to us, her wallet was stolen. Someone went to the restroom, and the toilet wouldn't flush. She opened up the lid on the tank and she found a wallet. She went back out in the crowd and came to our table. She had the wet wallet with a picture of me in it. She recognized me from the picture. Needless to say it was bizarre!!

this is impossible and untrue! if the toilet was blocked and would not flush,, the wallet was stuck in the piping UNDER the toilet...it could not possibly go into the tank .....

I left my wallet in a NYC cab after a long night
of drinking, never saw it again.
I woke up the next afternoon and said to
myself in the mirror "You freakin' idiot".
Fortunately, I only had about $10 in it but
I spent the next 3 days trying to find a way
to get home. No ID? No credit card?? Well, then
you get no plane ticket and no car to rent, nothing.

Just yesterday I got a call for my credit card co. asking if I made a lot of purchases on ebay. I hadn't and said so. They said no problem, life lock is on it and an arrest will be made if the offending party was at the address listed to ship the stuf to. Life Lock pay off!
