Yesterday, NASA came out with the stunning announcement that they had accidentally erased all the original footage of Neil Armstrong's moon walk. Why? The space agency apparently had a videotape shortage in the '70s and '80s and taped over all of their best evidence of Apollo 11's historic mission.

We've always been fairly accepting of the official story on the moon landing, but seriously?! They TAPED OVER IT? Shouldn't there be somebody at NASA whose job it is to make sure nobody tapes over the irreplaceable footage at the epicenter of a hotly debated historic event?

In what is sure to further fan the flames of conspiracy, NASA recently paid a team of Hollywood technical experts $230,000 to make a cleaned-up version (pictured) of the moon landing gleaned from four different recordings of the TV coverage at the time.

Check out another still from this sketchy restoration after the jump and let us know if this fishy story has made a conspiracist out of you.
