Twitter's Verified Accounts beta program is looking more and more like the 21st-century equivalent of the velvet rope. The hot social networking service is doling out the little turquoise badges to a select few VIPs, while leaving others out in the cold, sadly pressing their noses against the window to cool-dom.We're not sure what this says about Twitter, or the times we live in, but Meghan McCain was recently granted Verified status, while her dad, U.S. Senator John McCain, languishes on the waiting list with the likes of David Blaine. Not everyone who requests verification gets it.
More information on the verification process and why Senator McCain (and plenty of other celebrities) are being denied after the jump ...
While the main purpose of the program is to combat impersonators of well-known tweeters, that must be small comfort to those who don't rate. In the McCains' case, Meghan has been dogged by an unhinged impostor, while most people generally concede that the senator's ability to kill people with their own pinkies is a sufficient deterrent.
Still, just for fun, when you come across a celebrity Twitter account that hasn't been verified, you can go to this list to see who is more important than they are. And you.

That's because nobody really cares about John McCain, he's old.

How sad to condemn someone's age..Where is integrity and respect for older people that I was raised with? We all get old starting the day we were born.
