In a move that even the dad in "Footloose" would have called prudish, the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has banned a wine label they deemed too salacious for the delicate sensibilities of impressionable wine drinkers in the state.California's Cycles Gladiator wine, which features an art nouveau rendering of a naked nymph and a flying bicycle on the label, was ruled to be in violation of Alabama's law against displaying "a person posed in an immoral or sensuous manner." And let's face it, that artwork based on a 1895 French bicycle ad is nothing short of hard-core pornography.
Board attorney Bob Martin sent a notice to stores and restaurants ordering them to stop serving the wine. Meanwhile, Bill Leigon, president of the wine company, said his Web site traffic has increased tenfold since news of the ban broke. He's also planning a new "Banned in 'Bama" ad campaign.
Until the ban is lifted, Alabama residents will have to masturbate to the girl on the Miller High Life label instead.
