Working out doesn't necessarily lead to losing weight.Researchers are now suggesting that intense bursts of cardiovascular exercise can be counterproductive to weight loss because they also encourage more eating. Not only does working out make people overestimate how much food they can consume, but spending 45 minutes on a treadmill may actually exhaust self-control, which makes it more likely fries will be super-sized even when it's clearly a bad idea.
This new theory is backed by a study on overweight women, and may help explain why obesity and gym membership seem to be rising in lockstep.
So, if the gym is out, how would these naysayers suggest you get rid of the extra pounds? (Drum roll, please.) Eat less.

Heavytoka is right. Also, I'd like to see a study like this with men instead of women.

OH JESUS!!! NOT THIS CRAP AGAIN!!! TIME magazine made this their cover story not too long ago (maybe even currently?). And all you fat asses who want an excuse to stay on the couch and justify it are taking this study and running with it. Fact of the matter is, physical activity not only helps improve your body composition, it can help prevent a TON of diseases, one of the biggest being type II diabetes. This is so aggravating that the American College of Sports Medicine (of whom I am a member) even sent out a press release for all of its members to pass on to local newspapers explaining the stupidity of these studies. Heck, I don't think any of us need studies to see that people who are active, climb mountains, lift weights, run marathons etc... look better and are healthier than people who stay on the couch all day. UGH!
