One of TV's hottest properties, "Mad Men," is about to have some cold, stiff company. Variety reports that AMC is close to a deal with "Shawshank Redemption" director Frank Darabont to adapt zombie comic "The Walking Dead" for television. The series, which will follow a group of survivors dodging a zombie apocalypse, will be a departure from genre flicks like "Dawn of the Dead," focusing more on character and drama than pure splatterific action.
And if the show's ratings start to flag, there's always the prospect of a "Walking Dead/Mad Men" crossover episode. Wouldn't it be a kick to see the zombies get eaten alive for once?

The Walking Dead is a great graphic novel series...I'd hate to see it ruined by fitting it into a cable appropriate mold.

seems like this should be on showtime or hbo, not amc. a lot of the more horrific moments in the series has nothing to do with zombie splatter-gutting.

this will be an incredible move forward for zombie fiction as there as never been a TELEVISION SERIES based around a zombie apocalypse. if anything, hopefully if this fails, it will spawn more shows about zombies as no shows for zombies currently exist.

The idea of humans dying and coming back to life is a metaphor for immortality. This concept has been around since man developed the ability to think in the abstract.
If the writers are talented enough to catch the imaginations of the masses this program will be very successfull. After all, who wouldn't want to have sex with a dead person?

Though extremely gory Dawn of the dead was very character driven. I find the more recent spate of zombie movies are more gore driven than the George A. Romero series ever were.
