For a long while now people have been quick to blame music, film and video games for youth violence, but we're not sure how to explain the seeming increase in stories about kids brutalizing random animals. In the latest upsetting tale, from Newfoundland, three kids chased down a baby moose and beat it with sticks so badly wildlife officials had to put it down. Witnesses said the three boys had been chasing the moose around on their bicycles and hitting it until the calf was barely able to stand up.
"I can't understand why there would be such barbaric acts committed," said RCMP Sgt. Jacques Morneau. "I mean, the poor thing was crying out for its mother. The officers were very discouraged about the whole thing when they returned."
The three kids are all under 15 and may be facing criminal charges. Read more stories that make us worried for boyhood today.
And they're not alone. We all remember the furor about a year ago with the kids who made the cat torture video that was posted on YouTube. An 18-year-old in Florida went one step further and has been charged with killing 19 cats, some of which he had to break into homes to find. Meanwhile, in the U.K., a man walking his dog witnessed another group of kids stomping a newborn deer to death in a park recently.
Back in the day it was a surefire sign you were raising a little Hannibal Lecter if he shut a cat in an abandoned fridge, but stories like these seem to be becoming commonplace. Maybe every young boy has that moment when he accidentally hits a bird with a BB gun and spends the rest of the afternoon crying because he realizes what he's done. But with all this recent craziness, maybe not anymore.

You have good points, but schools don't teach a person how to interact with society.

You really are sick in the head too! How stupid can you be to actually blame the school system for these evil rotten bastard children. School teachers are suppose to teach us about science, history, English..etc. Not how to be a human. Yes we as a race are hunters. BUT ONLY TO SURVIVE! These evil bastards did it for the joy of killing! I cannot believe you are defending these evil beings...which means you are just as bad. I hope these "children" get beaten to death. It is people like you, who make excuses for this sick behavior, that are destroying the human race! SHAME ON YOU TOO!! You should be put down with them!

You have to kidding me right? School don't teach a person how to interact with society? Isn't the school atmoshpere a society all of it's own with rules, morals, codes of conduct, standards? Can you think for yourself?

The realistic kind. Do you think this is the last we'll here from these kids? I hope it's you or someone dear to you who gets tortured of killed by these sociopaths.

This is sociopathic behavior. There are things seriously wrong with these boys. According to Focus Adolescent Services, this type of brutal behavior has become more and more commonplace over the past two decades.

If you thought about what these kids saw in society, don't be so suprised by the numbers. The news is always depressing, or covering idiot celebraties, they are getting less and less from schools, parents are getting laid off, and some live in the bad parts of town. Who can blame them for reflecting all that they take in? And yes they can be turned around, do any of you actualy know how those kids feel know?

There is no excuse for anyone to beat or harm any baby of any kind, period. It only shows how cruel and sick humankind really is, even as children, which by the way, only grow up even more dangerous, if their not dealt with immediately and severely by the local law enforcement. Hopefully the parents will realize this as well and also treat this as serious as it is.

It's a fact that young people who kill animala graduate to killing humans. Anyone remember Jeffrey Dahmer. Kill these little bastards. Make it public where people can mock them. Better yet, feed them to bears or alligators. Wouldn't feel so tough then, would they?

It is long pasttime for us to continue to ignore our responsibility as a fellow creature on an overcrowded planet. If we cant recognize what is conduct allowable under our precareous condition it is time to begin putting down the miscreants as a lesson to those who would be tempted to follow in their footprints.

i think these kids should be beaten to show them how these helpless animals felt before they died. what comes around, goes around! if kids get away with doing this, they will continue to do it until they do it to another human being.

Lou: I am a Democrat and I agree with you and posters not like muffinmom. Cruelty to animals is a hugh flag that tells a qualified clinical social worker (I was one for 37+1/2 years all working with children and sometimes parents); it also tells the same to anyone with common sense who is paying attention. However since they'll all be on the streets again, some effort at treatmet should be made for society's sake.

You missed the point. I didn't say natural hunters. I said acting on instincts. Obviously the boys need guidance. The tween to teen years are crucial yet this is precisely when structured activity and teaching time slacks off! AHAHAHHA on the Democrat comment. That shows it's own ignorance. This isn't about party affiliations,
of which I am neither. You people really are scary in your seeingly knee jerk reactions. You've allowed society to be sundered and splintered, then raise hue and cry when the harvest of that starts coming in. These kids need sound guidance. Such as I and my generation got. I don't see that today.

Mufinmom,
I just have one question for you...would you be so quick to defend these psychopaths if the next thing they beat with sticks was YOUR child? Just wondering since that is usually the progression for demons like these.

Mufinmom,
You know you're right YOU should give them guidance. I think you'd be puuuurrrrfect (thats the cat those boys just killed)! Good luck!

Mufinmom. Thanks for your comment, and the earlier one that you took so much heat for. It's pretty obvious to me that these kids were engaged in wolf pack behavior - an adolescent version of the vengeful mob mentality of most of the posters. Sure these kids need to be disciplined. Their behavior was horrific, but not terminal. It is amazing to me how many people are willing to completely give up on them on the basis of a news blurb. Frightening really. If they really are sociopaths, the punishment of physical beating is just as likely to make them do it again as it is to teach them that they shouldn't have done it in the first place (which they probably already knew).

The problem is with todays parents who dont believe in spanking or punishing the little psychopaths. Girls are just as bad also. I have no problem spanking my 6 year old when he misbehaves and he knows and learns why he gets punished. It didnt hurt us as kids so quit trying to be the future serial killers friend and start being parents!!!! These boys need to be put in jail and need to do plenty of "volunteer" work at animal and homeless shelters as well as the morgues to see where their paths are heading. I say the Province should fine the parents as well.

If the boys would do this to a helpless baby animal what will they do to children, or the elderly, lock them up, make them an example and kids will think about cruel things they do.

The little bastards should be beaten with sticks so they can see what it feels like..This is clearly sociopathic behavior, and is just the next step...Next it will be children, then adults...Parents don't discipline their children anymore, they don't instill such qualities as empathy and caring for others..They just sit them in front of TV sets or give them video games in which they "kill" relentlessly, never knowing reality from fantasy...

At 15 years old you know what is right from wrong!! Those "punks" should be charged and don't listen to Momi and Daddy crying that 'my little Johnny would never do that"!!! BS. Charge the punks.
