As if all those license plates weren't enough of a contribution, the prisoners of one U.K. prison will now be getting a chance to give something back: their feedback. The police are giving inmates at the jail a 41-page questionnaire, asking them to rate their detainee experience on services such as "food and drink, reading material, safety, cleanliness, lighting, toilet and shower facilities, and exercise," and whether they'd been shown the emergency cell buzzer.
One guard groused, "They are starting to treat the emergency cell buzzer like a room service hotline ... We are getting asked all sorts -- to get them celebrity magazines, to put air con on, to bring them a salad."
The jail hopes to gain more than a "5 Shiv Rating" out of the scheme, however, viewing it as a valuable way to measure and identify best practices.

Prison is a punishment for crimes against society. Also a time to reflect and rehabilitate. It is NOT supposed to be pleasant. If you can't do the time.... Don't do the crime. Also, inmates should not be allowed to mingle together because then they just form gangs within the prison system and become worse offenders when they get out.

Who are you, the president? "Inmates form gangs when they are together." You must know it all huh? All of the orders sent to these gangs are from inmates that are on 24 hour lock down, weather they are together or not does not matter. Its when they are locked up by themselves is when they get worst.

I agree with you, but only to an extent. I don't think prisoners should live in luxury, but I don't think that they should live in substandard conditions. I think that everyone deserves living space (including beds) that isn't UNpleasant or has a negative effect on one's health. I think that prisoners deserve social contact. If a person robbed a store and was in jail for five years, what would he be like after five years of solitary confinement? Also, food and drink should be healthful and not unpleasant. Drink should be plentiful and available at all times. Sleep should be comfortable and reasonably long (eight hours). Exercise should be available. These are basic human needs, biological imperatives, and they should not be compromised, not even as punishment.

LOL. As if you're really going to get objective feedback from a prisoner. Would you really care about the results of their stupid survey if you were stuck in prison in the first place?

Interesting concept that might work here in the USA;
if prison officials can agree on such feedback.
I think the prisoners who are doing time still at
Chino should be allowed to give their feedback to
the officials as well.

Our tax dollars at work? Only if you live in the United Kingdom. U.S. tax payers don't pay for British jails, so U.S. tax dollars are not doing anything for or against this story

I think that all the people in prison should be treated like the prisoners of Sheriff Joe of Arizona.
