One of the great things about writing for Mediaite and Asylum is the surreal pleasure of asking the White House about health care reform and poker in the same breath. While issues like health insurance reform and diplomacy with North Korea are cute, we here at Asylum aren't afraid to dig for the deeper truths. For the past several days, I've been trying to nail down the President's pick for the World Series of Poker Final Table in November. While White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs still didn't have an answer for me yesterday, he did ensure that he would have a standing invitation to any DC poker game.
After the jump, I ask the important questions on behalf of concerned Asylum readers everywhere.
TC: I have two quick health care questions. First, I wanted to know if you got an answer on the poker question.
MR. GIBBS: I neglected to ask the poker question. I will -- I'll double-down and try that today.
TC: And also, actually, when you do ask him, what's his favorite game? Is he a Texas Hold'em guy?
MR. GIBBS: I will -- I have a lot of questions to go ask the President about.
Hmm, it's almost like he thinks there are more pressing issues for the president to consider than poker. Of course, since "doubling down" is blackjack parlance, Gibbs may have just become my new favorite player for a DC poker game. We'd just need to get Bush to stop yelling "Uno!"
