Most people just assume that the clear liquor that fuels their screwdrivers and electric lemonades is a Russian invention. Right now, that's up for serious debate. Poland continues to claim vodka as its own. They've even gone as far as petitioning the E.U. to put strict controls on how vodka is defined, which will have far-reaching effects on the nearly $12 billion industry. Poland's claim is just the latest move in an ongoing dispute that at various points in history has even involved armed conflict.
