Yes, this new lamp, the Yamagiwa Moonbird, is made from hand-carved plywood. What? You can carve plywood? And it turns out like that? Curse us for skipping the whittling merit badge in Scouts. The Moonbird uses 28 one-quarter-watt LEDs to brighten up your desk while you stroke your evil cat and plan for world domination. On the minus side, it won't generate enough power to double as a matter-evaporating ray.
They call it eco-friendly, mostly because it uses LEDs rather than old-school bulbs, and wood rather than metal. Credit designer Yukio Hashimoto for bringing these curves to light.
