In what is being called a clear case of primate profiling, cops in Perth, Australia, arrested a street performer who was dressed as a monkey, drawing jeers from the crowd assembled to watch his show.

The monkey-suited entertainer, Brenton Green, was dancing in front of a small group of onlookers when police interrupted the performance and demanded his name. Green, apparently a method monkey, responded by "continually shaking his head and making squeaking noises," according to police.

When cops asked for his name again, he replied, "Monkey." That's when officers shoved him against a store window and cuffed him, while fans booed and shouted out things like "Why are they arresting this monkey?"

"I thought it was some sort of a joke," Green said, breaking character momentarily. "And then he put the cuffs on me and I just couldn't believe it."

Police, who allege that Green bumped into people and knocked a hamburger out of a guy's hand, charged the monkey performer with "failing to comply with a request given" and put him in jail.
