Monkeys seem to enjoy the sounds of hard rock.Researchers played a group of cotton-top tamarin monkeys a variety of musical types, such as jazz and classical, and found that they only reacted when they heard the loud, fast-paced sounds of a band like Metallica. Instead of banging their heads, however, the heavy metal made the simians appear calm and content.
While the researchers were also able to coax reactions from the cotton-tops when they played them a special composition of cello music and monkey calls, in some cases this would just agitate the apes.
This discovery actually raises our assessment of the typical heavy metal fan's level of sophistication.

this study is not scientific and is entirely subjective, and the article is worse.
apes & monkeys= primates.
apes are not monkeys. Apes do not have tails.
tamarin monkeys are not apes or chimpanzees, like the APE in the picture.
Also, apes are highly developed mentally and socially to a point where they will take care of their old and disabled, which is more than some humans do.

Certainly they will like Rap and other nonsense type of noises. People like myself have evolved over the thousands of years to enjoy good music such as Mozart, Beethoven etc.

@rex spence and others. Why is rap music getting drawn in this discussion? For what I saw from the main article is that it was not mentioned even a single bit. This article talks about how monkeys reacted to hard rock compared to other genres, but most of the comments I see are just on the attack of rap music.
What is your problem? And what is with relating rap music as degenerate. Rap like metal is a love or hate genre. If you don't like it, you don't like it, doesn't mean you should try to insult the intelligence of those who like it.(Although I think what is being said here is deeper than just music tastes. Its something far worse that I honestly hope is not what people are trying to say as it'll imply pure ignorance and stupidity)
Turns out most black people like rap music, and then these guys are associating them with monkeys... Shameful, I am not going to go on about this as I hope that is not the point you are trying to make.
I like metal, I like some rap, I like classical, the only reason I don't like most rap is because of it's subject theme which is generally pretty shallow and disconnected from daily life(just like some metal can be also shallow and irrelevant to daily life and just like any genre can have this) I am more interested in the instruments and skill of metal bands, so obviously it'll be tempting, but hard for me to say every other genre I don't like lack talent because they don't use instruments therefore they are rubbish. It's unfair because i'll be generalizing, theres more to music than instruments or how the song is sung etc.
I was expecting an entertaining and educational debate about that article but sadly human nature has to regress into hierarchies, raising oneself and their tastes above others. Indeed AOL is racist, and so are most of the commentators on this topic.
Adieu!!
