In the University of Houston's course catalog, PEB 4197 is listed simply as "online aerobics activities." Which sounds oxymoronic, but what it actually means is that students can now get PE credit for playing the "Wii Fit" video game. The university recently sacrificed a racquetball court (so 20th century) to set up a "classroom" of Wii stations, where students will get their credit for working out 20-30 minutes twice a week.
Lamely, the chairman of the Department of Health and Human Performance at the university said the emphasis is on fitness activities like yoga, as opposed to the sports like tennis and bowling.
Due to our aversion to exercise, avatar-aided or otherwise, we wouldn't be clamoring to get into PEB 4197.
Although we'd have to reconsider that stance if we knew co-eds who look like this would also be enrolling.
