So far, Florida's annual public gator hunt has had an unexpected big winner. No, not the alligator, although that would be something. Instead, it was Arianne Prevost of Satellite Beach, who bagged an 11-foot, 450-lb. swamp beast with a crossbow during her first ever outing, and also happens to photograph well.Prevost, a skilled archer, was out with her boyfriend when she slayed the behemoth with two perfect shots from 10 to 15 feet, and then a broadhead shot from close range.
People like to make fun of Florida, but a state where hot blondes will go hunting with you in a swamp can't be all bad. (On the other hand, 450-lb. reptiles!?! We're staying up North.)

The crocodile she killed was a beautiful creature. He lived a long life. Too bad he couldn't have gone on living. What a competition????? I am just disgusted. This is a travesty. What would Steve Irwin do if he saw this? I guess people get off doing things like this. Sad. Totally sad!

Remember, the meat gets eaten, the animal would die at somepoint anyway, as it is an animal, and gator population here in FL is notorious for killing household pets; the same way that deer are hunted, because in many of the areas in which they are hunted they are actually destructive to the crops in the area. So to those of you that call it barbaric, Get off of the internet, and go assume your position hugging that tree like you were a moment ago.

SCOTT AND JOSEY - You can only use ecosystem balance as reasoning if you can justify and understand it's implications. An ecosystem is designed like a pyramid with apex predators being many times less plentiful than bottom dwellers, which is why most apex predators are territorial and large. Killing a small amount of apex predators at the top (gators) has ripple effects on the entire pyramid. With less animals and more likiness to be perceived by humans as threat and competition, it's not hard to see how apex predators have the largest impact on an ecosystem and are most likely to become endangered. Any wonder why the populations and ranges of Black and Brown Bears, Gators, Jaguars and Cougars, Wolves and Coyotes all diminished when America was colonized and generally continue to this day? Yes overpopulation can be just as big of problem as endangerment, but SouthEastern US ecosystems are now more balanced than they were 30 years ago when gators/crocs were endangered. I like hunting, I wear leather, and gator is good. Shooting a Gator point blank 10-15 feet away is garbage hunting, if you hunt for sport give yourself a challenge. Americans stopped having to hunt for survival a long time ago. So don't give me tree hugger bs please. Proper management is the key to animal survival as well as ours. Since the endangered status has been lifted we have been doing well - because we can allow hunting again for sport/food/whatever to keep population numbers in check in certain areas, yet we also have gator farms for food/leather and emergencies. Since civilization began we have claimed animals have been invadeing our space, when will we realize it's the other way around? How are gators "becoming a burden on the natural world" when they ONLY live in the SE US and we can live nearly anywhere on the planet? That's the epitomy of encroachment. The human population is growing out of control, lets give some licenses for that and start hunting. Some of us understand the principle with animals, don't people understand humans are animals too, there are limited resources, and overpopulation can happen with us too? Or is that too morbid of truth to realize? We have to respect animals, eachother and the planet or we will all suffer the same fate.

Doesn't it occur to you "wildlife huggers" that if it weren't for legal hunting in these great United States we live in, we'd be over run by wild animals. So what, she killed an 11ft alligator, big ups to you girl!! lol.. i don't think i could do that for the pure fact that it could eat me lol. you ppl need to lighten up..

Marshall - You bleeding heart liberal assholes just don't get it. If you don't have a season on these alligators, eventually, you will be the one the alligator is killing. They will multiply and take over not only the swamps, but start moving out into you own space. Why? Because there will be too many of them for the swamps and will have to expand to other areas. Do you think for a minute that if this gator was to come into your back yard that it will think you or your pet has a right to live? Give me a break. These hunting seasons are not designed to be cruel. They are a necessary to control the gator population and keep you, your children and pets safe in your own back yard.

For every person who has issues with hunting, to show your support for your cause, you should eat tofu for the rest of your life-no bar-bq, hamburgers, chicken, seafood or any kind of meat-or shut the hell up!!

Wow...you guys are ridiculous. It doesn't make her any more sexy, granted she IS easy on the eyes, but the prospect of that being senseless brutality? Dumb. Gators are very dangerous and have, on occasion, attacked without reason. Deer hunting, even for sport, isn't all bad. The deer population is in no danger of becoming extinct. Quite the opposite in fact. Quit hugging the trees so hard; you may get splinters.

Unfortunately for animals (that includes alligators) on this planet Humans are at the top of the food chain. I am tired of people thinking that animals have rights too, that type of thinking is what got our current president elected. Hippies and other wussies please move away from the United States, the rest of us don't need you. Sponsored by PETA (People for the Eating of Tasty Animals)

This gator was killed inthe annual gator hunt in Florida. I don't understand why anyone would kill such beautiful, yet highly respectable creatures that are the only living dinosaurs left on this earth other than sharks. I know people in Florida don't want gators in their yards taking the chance of attacking and/or killing small children and pets. However, with so much new development in Florida, the American alligator habitat is being taken by all the building going on, so where else can they go? It's a lose-lose situation for the gators, so many are killed in the annual hunt, as well as during "nusiance" calls. This is how animals end up on the endangered list. Let's not allow this to happen to the American Alligator. No, I'm not an animal activist, and not with or assiciated in any way with PETA. I just have a love of nature, and all the wildlife living in the wild.

Jesus Tracy....
1. We dont shoot "Deers" as there is no such thing.
2. We harvest deer.
3. We are not and are never going to be ashamed for taking the lives of animals for food. Just Like I'm not going to be ashamed about the cheeseburger I just ate, or the egg sandwich I had for breakfeast i wont feel guilty the venison jerkey in my cupboard.
4. The aligatator was stalked... this isnt a case of where you can just pull a boat upside a critter and beat it senseless, there is some skill involved here. Anyone who has actually used a crossbow can tell you its not as straight foward as putting a red dot on the target.

Ill just go with a nice quote from Ted Nuggent - The only rights animals have is the right to butter and garlic.

Well, I think this is highly impressive and at the same time a shame, however alligatos having rights is one thing and a almost 500 pound alligator having rights, I do no. I would'nt my child around and that alligator found his way out of the swamp and ate my kid or any one for that matter. So in conclusion I am really glad that his time has come to stop growing and make someone else closet fat. He needed to be destroyed. For safety reasons alone.

ey Joi!! Check your grammer. Why don't we just kill off any animal that we think is a threat to our children? Joi!! Have you thought about going to Texas and joining in on the so called rattlesnake roundup. Hundred's of snake's are murdered for the sake of Sport. Gator save my child. Good God another uneducated dumb ass.
