If by some strange coincidence you haven't already received an e-card or been alerted by some well-wishing passerby, let us be the first to tell you that today is Hobbit Day. Hobbit Day is part of Tolkien Week, which honors J.R.R. Tolkien and his "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. But not everybody is celebrating. Women, for instance, have traditionally been less than enthusiastic about the esteemed book and film series. But why? We asked Asylum's token girl to watch the first film to find out.

I laughed too hard watching you fumble with the ridiculous DVD box. I'll admit, it always took me entirely too long to figure out how to fold it all back together correctly.

I am glad that I happened upon this web site and watched a woman's perspective on Lord of the Rings. It made me realize why your opinion is so irrelevant to normal discorse and of no useful value as well as a ridiculous and bias opinion.

Bob, you better be kidding. It's hard to tell through the (deliberately) thick writing.
This was hilarious-- I'd be willing to bet LOTR fans with even a remote sense of humor would be able to admit she's on the money with some of these observations.

Bob, you are an idiot. Also, it's spelled "discourse." And finally, Emily rules.

Ummm...does this represent only the first of the Lord of the Rings, or ALL OF THEM. I think I need to hear more.
P.S. It's a long journey.

That isn't a woman's perspective, that's a complete non-geek perspective. Women like this are the reason why most men still think there are no real female geeks, girls can't read maps, and girls don't know what's awesome, therefore they watch "girl movies". Now *that's* something a normal person can fall asleep watching.

This is not "the womans perspective" on lord of the rings. This is a single girl who clearly isn't into this kind of stuff. I don't know if shes trying to mock how woman supposedly act, or is actually this lame. I suppose its supposed to be funny, but I just found it insulting.

Looks like someone has Eye of Sauron envy. The only thing a comment like that says is that you're an ass.

Wait. You do need a map to follow Sleepless in Seattle. In fact, it was in the movie. Every time a character flew across the country, there was a map on the screen with a plane depicting the flight.
I guess the director felt we needed to be reminded that New York was a long way from Seattle.

Yeah, um, I'm a woman and I love LotR.
Women are allowed to like books (and badass book-films).

I'm a girl. I love LOTR, the books and the movies. I clicked this video hoping for a serious (or at least seriously amusing) perspective on the books/films. Instead I got this drivel. Sure some it made me chuckle. But honestly, it wasn't worth the time it took to make this little film.
And yes, over the years women have lodged legitimate complaints about the book -- largely that they are so focused on men and male models of conflict (i.e. physical war), with few significant female characters (Galadriel and Eowyn withstanding).
Instead of a perspective on that, we just get comments that anyone seeing the film for the first time could cook up.
Do I have a sense of humor? Yes. I love things that make legitimate, intelligently humorous satire of things (see South Park's LOTR parody, or the Secret Journals of the Fellowship of the Ring). This wasn't legitimate, intelligent, or humorous.
