This information was released as part of a British campaign to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. It is based on the average British male having had nine direct sexual partners and the average female 6.3. (Look at that, somebody's lying already.)

"When we sleep with someone, we are, in effect, not only sleeping with them, but also their previous partners and their partners' previous partners, and so on," said the head of the study, echoing words you've heard many times.

Still, it does make any threesome fantasies seem quaint.
