Good looks are more valued in the workplace than intelligence.Researchers from Yale rated 4,000 younger men and women on their attractiveness, and then gave them an IQ test and asked questions about their salary. They found that being above-average looking is worth 5 to 10 percent more in pay, while an extra 14 points of IQ is only worth 3 to 6 percent. A plain-looking person would have to be 40 percent smarter than a very attractive person to get the same salary for similar work.
It is speculated that this is because the good-looking come off as more confident and are likelier to ask for a raise.
Though not explicitly stated in the study, they are also more likely to play an irreplaceable part in the imaginary sex lives of their bosses.
