After we posted on CNN reporter Rick Sanchez's daring escape from a sinking car, a surprisingly large number of readers shared their own experience with being trapped in in submerged vehicles. What are you guys doing in your cars? Making nachos? We're going to give you the Noble Prize, but with a stern caveat to watch where you're going.Heavytoka said, "Or keep a gun in your car so you can shoot the window out and make a quick exit."
Rob said, "They did this on Mythbusters and showed that it doesn't take much of a pressure differential to keep you from opening the door or the window. Their suggestion (assuming you don't have a hammer) was to open the door immediately upon hitting the water. If you wait, you probably won't be able to open it."
Scott E. Musser said, "Forget the Hammer. What if your elderly, weak, arthritic or have rotator cuff problems. The perfect tool (A Machinist's Awl)."
Bob Willis said, "Why didn't the people running this experiment mention that you can unclick the seat belt & take the metal end to strike aganist the inside of the side window?"
Thanks, guys. This makes us glad we got our drivers' licenses revoked for impersonating doctors. (Apparently that's a crime in the state of Texas.)
