We're not sure why, but this story feels like a beautiful dream come to life. NASA has announced a plan to launch a missile at the moon this Friday. The projectile will travel at twice the speed of a bullet, and will leave a huge frickin' crater on the moon's South pole (presumably selected to spare Moon Base Santa).
So, why are they doing this? We decided to investigate just what the moon did to deserve this.
The obvious first guess was that it's because NASA folk are big fans of "Mr. Show with Bob and David:"
Turns out the real reason is much stupider. They're looking for some ice, apparently, so astronauts will stop complaining about having to drink their Moonhattans "neat."
Still, we think this is worth a look, but if you can't catch the live feed of the launch this Friday, you can make do with this pretty cool simulation:

They are going to hit it with a missile which will cause the moons rotation to change a tiny bit and then start the end of the world

i was thinking along the same line Heavytoka - we know that a very small shirt in any of the other planets causes our planet crazy weather issues so why in the world would then shoot a dam mmissle at the moon? where has common sense gone?

You do realize that the moon is constantly being bombarded with asteroids and other space rocks right? Ones that weigh many times more than the missile we are going to shoot. This is only going to disturb the top layer of the moon. A missile with this mass and velocity knocking the moon out of orbit has the same chance as a mosquito landing on you and knocking you over, its just not going to happen.
