A 58-year-old down and out has been crowned Miss Homeless in Belgium with a first prize of a rent free flat for a year. Therese Van Belle, 58, beat nine other finalists in the contest who will now all go back on the streets. Organizer Aline Duportail said the competition was meant to draw attention to the plight of the homeless. "It was about the contestants' inner strength and determination to get themselves out of their old life and on a new path," she explained.

A total of 379 people at the University of Melbourne in Australia set out to smash the Guinness World Record for robot dancing on Sept. 29. The previous record was set by 279 people at the University of Kent in England. The robotic macarena was organized by Robogals, a nonprofit group of young engineering undergraduates who teach robotics to Australian schoolgirls.
