From the moment they first slid suavely onto to the scene, with a shimmer of slinky synthesizer and a strong whiff of Gallic savoir faire, the boys from the French electro duo Air -- Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel -- have been synonymous with an unruffled, moog-soundtracked sophistication. Their debut album "Moon Safari" defined ice-cool electronic wooziness to the point of inspiring dozens of inferior coffee shop chill-out imitators, while later compositions added an extra shine of retro-futuristic elegance to the already ultra-stylish films of Sofia Coppola.
Indeed, their Dunckel and Godin's sonic stylishness is equaled only by their sartorial chic. Whether clad in crisp all-white tailoring, or bookish sweater-vest combos, Godin and Dunckel generally appear in public looking as effortlessly French and insouciant (thank you, thesaurus.com) as the breathy robot vocal line of their first hit "Sexy Boy."
So with the release of the album "Love 2," we created a guide to stealing Air's style ...
Grey Razor Suit Jacket
On the cover of their latest album "Love 2," the Air boys adopt a wistful combo of sharp-edged suits and soft, introspective casual wear. This skinny-fit, knife-sharp number from Topman is a good first step for stealing the look. ($280 from Topman.com)
Salvatore Ferragamo "Marte" Striped Scarf
This natty silk scarf captures the raffish charm of Dunckel's neckwear. ($160 from Bloomingdales.com)
Theory Ivory Cashmere-Silk 'Oswald' Crewneck Sweater
We can't tell the material of Dunckel's sweater from this pic, but considering the nature of their tunes, it would seem appropriate if it were a luxurious yet chic silk-cashmere blend like this effort from Theory. ($177 from Bluefly.com)
Slim-Fit Non-Iron Double Fine-Stripe Shirt
An artfully un-top-buttoned, tie-less shirt allows Godin to match Dunckel's dapper-casual counterpoint. ($79.50 from BananaRepublic.com)
