Last week, we found out that the modern man cries an average of six times a year. Now we've got nothing against dudes crying, but that's an awful lot of viewings of "Brian's Song" or dog funerals for once around the sun. So just what's causing all those man tears?

Luckily, if there's one thing we've got around the Asylum offices (besides comic-book-inspired toys), it's men. So we asked our editors and contributors to answer one personal question: When was the last time you cried? Read on to see what brings a man to tears.

Chris: "I woke up one morning with an intense pain in my abdomen. Hurt to sit, stand, and even lay down. I thought I pulled a muscle at the gym. This feeling happened two to three times a month for about four months. I didn't go to the doctor because it always flared up the day after I went to the gym and did back/abs. I blamed myself for being stupid.

One day it got so bad I couldn't breathe. The pain became unbearable and I was just laying in bed and a couple tears came to my eyes the pain got so intense. The next day I went to the doc who sent me for cat scans; infected appendix. An hour later I was in surgery. I was living with an infected appendix for all those months. Not my brightest moment.

The second time I cried was when I got the medical bill for the part insurance didn't cover. YIKES! "

Ethan: "Without getting all emo, I recently saw a long relationship come crashing to an end. And at some point during the self-pity fest that followed I rented 'Zach and Miri Make a Porno,' which if you haven't seen it is a fairly mediocre Seth Rogen vehicle about having sex on camera to pay utility bills -- with the requisite love-story subplot. So Seth Rogen, amateur porn in a Starbucks, an anal sex s**t-on-the-face gag, and yet I actually found myself welling up during some of the thinly dressed moments of intimacy. Not full-on crying, mind you. I'm not a total p**sy."

Anthony: "I shed some tears when my grandfather died in August. Before that, I think I misted up in the movie theater during the first act of 'Up.'"

Justin: "Probably when I finished the novel, 'A Prayer for Owen Meany' a few years ago. Something about under-developed outcasts with super high voices getting their limbs blown off by a grenade gets me every time."

Nick: "When Michael Jackson died. More specifically, during Brooke Shields' speech at his funeral. I suddenly realized there will never be a sequel to Captain EO. That was the first time I've cried since ... I don't even remember when."

Tom: "These are the last three times I cried. New Year's Day: Really, insanely extreme hangover. March: Death of pet cat Bernard at the age of 82 human years. July: When I accidentally watched the final episode of season two of 'The Wire' instead of the first. Cruel world."

Jordan: "My grandmother died the first week of May, the day before her birthday. I didn't cry when I found out the news. But I tried to explain to someone what she was like, and I started to think of what an old battle-axe she was. She was a tough bitch for lack of a better phrase. And it was shocking that she died because even though she was in her 90s she didn't act like it. She was still as mouthy as ever and just wouldn't give people an inch. There wasn't a gift in this fucking world that you could have given her for her birthday that would have ever been right even if it was exactly what she asked you to get for her from the exact store. She also wanted to taste every piece of food you were eating. Just a lick from of your ice cream? Oh yeah because after a geriatric woman in lipstick mouths my double scoop of cookies and cream I'm really going to want to eat the rest of it. She was a very nice woman as well, but I started to tear up when thinking about what a pain she was at times."

OK, after reading that last one, surely you can fess up. When was the last time you shed a tear?
