i have to say out of the six up there, the only ones i found really scary were the exorcist, it, and audition. although i did get over "it" when i was 13, probably because i had a bad ass slingshot

The first time I saw The Hitcher, the original movie (1986) with Rutger Hauer, it terrified me. Mr. Hauer was haunting as the demented killer. Another scary movie: Don't Be Afraid of The Dark (1973) with Kim Darby. Anyone remember it?

Depends on the day, really. Sometimes it's Children of the Corn, other times Alien is what leaves the skid marks. I can say with certainty that it's not Night of the Lepus though.

I agree with Exorcist at the top spot, by far scariest of ALL TIME. Audition is also a justified selection, as with most movies directed by Takashi Miike. Aliens could make an argument, but this can qualify under sci-fi as well. If I had to select a top 5, they would be as follows:
1. Exorcist
2. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
3. Audition
4. Martyrs (France)
(Tie)
5. American Werewolf in London
6. 28 Days Later (on concept alone)
Also, if your into the foreign horror scene, check out the following: Battle Royale, Suicide Circle, Ju-on, Kairo, and Ringu.

Hell Bound Hell Raiser...Event Horizon were the scariest supernatural movies ..however, the other movie was a French movie that dealt with real people and the horrors we as humans can portray on another human "vicious rape scene in an underground tunnel" wherein the boyfriend and friends take revenge...and the mild and meek turn out to be the most vicious of us all..

i have to agree with "It". I must have been 6, I couldent sleep so i sliped out my room and into the living room, I started flipping channels untill I got to the scene where pennywise expands the drain on the floor and talks to that kid in the shower, I almost pissed myself and dident shower for days.

2 Movies missing from the list are High-Tension and John Carpenters Thing. They both stick with you long after the movie is over.
