77-year old Pat Gillespie must have looked like a vulnerable target as he unloaded groceries in front of his Flint, Mich., home last Thursday. But when a gunman swooped in to rob the Air Force veteran, the thief learned firsthand the perils of trying to steal from someone who has just returned from the supermarket. That's because instead of emptying his pockets, Gillespie reached into one of the bags and pulled out the biggest thing he could find: a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi. Gillespie used the weighted plastic container to beat his assailant with a barrage of blows that didn't stop even when the criminal shot Gillespie in the groin. Eventually the would-be robber fled, empty-handed.
"I'm not a fighter but I don't need any B.S. from anybody," said the retiree, who shows no ill-effect from the shooting other than a temporary limp. "This is my house."
So what did Gillespie do with his weapon of choice? Why the unsentimental vigilante drank it, of course. Keep reading to see video about the incident.

Way to go, old man! I love a good story like THAT. Brave old men like him aren't all that uncommon though...I personally know at least one man in his eighties who would have beat that punk to death with his bare fists (gunshot or no)...but hopefully the next time this "would be" robber tries to rob someone they'll have a gun to end the career of this piece of scum....one less POS out there hurting people....

It would have been a very different sort of out come and story had the prospective thief shot this gung-ho old man in the head or heart, or even both. What if he had been raging on PCP and crack? I really admire this old fella's spirit and grit, but 99 times out of a 100 a brave pensioner tackling an assailant with a gun ends tragically. This thief clearly had no qualms about firing his weapon, he was just a bad shot in his panic. I have the greatest respect for the old man as I've said, but I think reports like this one whip up the wrong kind of fervor and blind hero worship. I would have been very sad indeed to have read about yet another shooting death of a defenceless old man as he came home from the supermarket...

Only COWARDS go after the ones that appear to be weak and the COWARDS usually succeed too. It's nice to hear of an exception to this rule.

Hoorah for fighting back. However, I hope those insane politicos do not classify Pepsi as a weapon that requires a permit to drink. I guess things don't go better with COKE! I have heard lots of things you can also do with these sodas, and this adds to my list. As a old lady, I can get these bozos by carrying around a Pepsi large, and have a warning label on my car. Warning: this old gal carries PEPSI for pep and purpose.
