The battle between the White House and Fox News continues, despite the fact that it seems to be damaging the image of both sides at best, and is an extreme waste of time at worst.

But it might do the White House well to take a closer look at its arch-nemesis in broadcasting, for in among the Glenn Becks and Bill O'Reillys of the Foxverse, there is one anchor who goes off the conservative reservation on a fairly regular basis. Shepard Smith loves to go rogue, and when he does, it can be far more compelling television than the nightly O'Reilly screamfest or Beck extravaganza of emotional instability. In the wake of the D.C. Holocaust Museum shooting, Shep called out some of the kookier Fox viewers that he'd gotten emails from.


Smith is rightly proud of his independent streak, and fiercely protective of it. When a guest tries to accuse him of some kind of bias, he tells her "Don't you Fox on me, ever!"
